Skill Acquisition Training for Women

Completed Igabi Federal Constituency, Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Women in Nigeria's border communities face compounded vulnerabilities — limited access to education, restricted economic participation, social and cultural barriers to self-employment, and disproportionate exposure to poverty. Addressing these inequalities is central to the Border Communities Development Agency's (BCDA) mandate, and Blue Sea Services Limited was selected to implement a skill acquisition training programme specifically designed for women in the Igabi Federal Constituency of Kaduna State. Blue Sea Services Limited designed and delivered a structured vocational training programme that equipped female beneficiaries with practical, marketable skills relevant to the local economic context of the Igabi constituency. Training tracks included vocational skills in areas such as tailoring and garment production, soap and cosmetics making, food processing and packaging, and small business management — skills chosen for their low startup costs, strong local demand, and potential to generate sustainable income for participants. The programme incorporated hands-on practical training sessions delivered by experienced vocational instructors, the provision of training materials and starter kits to participants, and entrepreneurship orientation sessions to help beneficiaries understand how to convert their new skills into viable income-generating activities. Blue Sea Services Limited coordinated the logistics of the training programme including venue arrangement, participant mobilization, trainer engagement, materials procurement, and monitoring of attendance and participation levels. The programme concluded with a graduation ceremony celebrating the women's achievement and officially recognizing their new capabilities. This initiative directly empowered hundreds of women in the Igabi Federal Constituency with economic tools and confidence, marking a meaningful step toward gender equality and women's financial independence in the border communities of Kaduna State.
